Your appointment and consultation

Making an appointment

If your GP has decided that he wishes to seek the opinion of a specialist he will issue you with a referral letter.

Please contact your insurer, if relevant, and have the details or a pre authorisation number to hand before telephoning the hospital to make the booking to see a consultant.

Under certain circumstances you may have been asked to prepare for your appointment by way of fasting, or in the case of X-ray or scan tests by taking a laxative issued by the hospital.

Your consultation

Out-patients reception

On the day of your appointment we would be grateful if you could arrive at the outpatient reception 10 minutes ahead of your booked time. You will be welcomed by our receptionist who will arrange for the completion of the registration form.

During your consultation you may be required to have X-rays or scans carried out or to have blood samples taken for pathology tests. The results of any tests which may be necessary will be relayed to your GP by your consultant.

Your consultant may also issue you with a private prescription during your visit. This can conveniently be dispensed for you in the hospital’s pharmacy before you leave.
